120 Volunteers Make a Clean Sweep on the Fenwick Tributary

A big "thank you" to all of the volunteers at the annual Fenwick Tributary cleanup, including those who contributed to the success of the cleanup, but who were not able to attend. One hundred twenty volunteers fanned out from Rock Creek to 16th Street to East West Highway. They removed over 300 bags and 700 pounds of debris. Some of the more unusual items included almost every part of a complete automobile, vintage bottles, landscaping tools, roofing shingles, carpets, old school TVs and antennas, paper currency and coins, clothing, and a gasoline can (with gas).

Several volunteers in the locations where they have worked before noted that the park is looking cleaner than it did last year. This is the result of having removed a lot of the "heritage trash" and is proof that you can make a difference in three hours! In contrast, the volunteers in the area that have not been focused on in previous years (the northern most part of the stream near East West Highway and the Northern Boundary Stone) were shocked by what as well as the amount of junk that they found.

A special thanks to North Portal Estates neighbor Clif Grandy for once again spearheading this effort for our community.
